Bigger Bread: the online home of Andrew Chaikin
ABOUT THIS SITE

This is the personal site of Andrew Chaikin. That's me. Hi.

Are you that guy who writes about astronauts and space?

Nope, that's the other Andrew Chaikin. He's in his forties and lives in Boston. I'm 33 and I live in San Francisco. No direct relation, alas, but we are buds. He's a wonderful individual. I'm proud to know him (and share his name).

So who are you then?

Good question. Stroll around the site and maybe you can help me figure that one out.

I'm originally from Staten Island, NY. Moved to SF in 1991, right after college. For a bunch of years I made my living as a musician (singer / songwriter / producer / human beatbox) with an a cappella band called the House Jacks, who signed with Warner Bros. in the mid-90's. After that I pulled down tidy sums as an Internet consultant, then spent two years in Startuplandia, working on various early-stage venture ideas with various cohorts.

These days I do a bunch of things, for various amounts of love and money. I'm a voice actor -- commercials, cartoons, video games, etc. I name things. I'm a world-renowned vocal percussionist -- that's the human beatbox part -- and I perform with various bands, both live and on record. I teach vocal percussion at the Jazzschool in Berkeley, and lead vocal workshops that often get wonderfully spiritual/primal/communal. I invent games and puzzles, and I'm currently shopping around a hella-fun party game called Hogwash!. And as always, there are lots of other projects on my plate as well.

I'm a practicing Buddhist; feel free to come meditate or yogify with me.

Also available: formal biographies for my performance and professional activities.

What does Bigger Bread mean?

Well, that's sort of a long story, but you can start here.

Anything else?

At this point I'd like to give a shout-out to my fonts: Interstate, BubbleBoy, Mini7, and of course, Georgia and Verdana. Much love.
